Wanaka, The Glaciers and the West coast.

Hey guys, the following pictures are of our road trip that took us from Dunedin to Wanaka, and then up the West coast where we experienced glaciers and alpine parrots. Enjoy

Emily in front of the world famous puzzling world in Wanaka, NZ

Emily and Jacklyn experiencing odd angles. The yellow level in the background is perfectly level believe it or not.

The room of faces.

As you walk around this room, the faces follow your every move. Very scary

Tall and small  room. Just like Willy Wanka's room

John and I using some traditional roman style toilets. No privacy here.

The leaning clock tower of Wanaka

One of two lakes outside Wanaka. So far the most beautiful lake we have come across.

It is like stepping into a painting

The blue pools where you can see brown trout and salmon swimming upstream in the crystal clear water

One of several waterfalls  on the west coast following a rain shower

The Tasman sea on the west coast

NZ famous Tui bird. The white bulge under its neck gives it away

A cove on the west coast

We decided to make camp on a beach one evening. We kept the fire burning all night to keep away the bloody sand flies. Other than the flies it was pretty peaceful  hearing the waves break all night.

Fox Glacier

A fellow north American from Wyoming. His beard trumped ours for sure. Every time we took a picture with him he would say Whisky

Posing in front of Fox glacier

We heeded the warnings and opted not to swim in the glacier water

The traveling gang

Teaching our American friends  how to build a proper enookshook

Were hoping it becomes a post card

A short  drive down the road from the Fox glacier is the equally impressive Franz Joseph glacier

John and I with the Franz Joseph glacier in the back ground

Emily all locked up in an old gold mining town

NZ famous Hokitkia white bait pizza. White bait is a tiny little white fish that is considered a delicacy here in NZ. People can only fish white bait a few weeks out of the year, making it hard to find when it is out of season. Luckily for us this pizza shop stock piles the fish all year round.

Emily on the beach in Hokitika. Hokitika is home to the largest deposit of greenstone (jade or pounamu as the maori call it) in NZ. The Arahura river is the main source of jade in NZ, which is a few min north of Hokitika

The Kea. NZ's alpine parrot

They are notorious for eating people's car weather stripping. We caught this
Kea in the act.
